Meet Sam

I’m Sam Ayres, and I’m thrilled to be running as your candidate for Hill County Commissioner. With a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design and over fifteen years of experience as a project manager overseeing multimillion-dollar projects, I honed my skills in strategic planning, budget management, and effective leadership. Now, as a small business owner specializing in digital marketing, design, and website services, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with local businesses, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities facing our community.

From my first days visiting Hill County, I was drawn in by the warmth and spirit of this community. That’s why, in October of 2021, I moved from the Gallatin Valley to Hill County, choosing to put down roots and invest in a 7-acre homestead forty miles north of Havre, where I raise chickens, goats and various other poultry and livestock. You may even know me as The Havre Egg Wrangler, selling farm-fresh eggs around town.

While I may not be a lifelong resident of Montana, my connection to this land runs deep, with familial roots dating back to the late 1800s. I’ve always believed that Montana is the greatest place on earth. Now, I’m dedicated to giving back to this incredible community I’ve come to call home.

My passion for bowhunting, fly fishing and homesteading led me to create The Wild Initiative, a lifestyle brand, blog and podcast that celebrates these cherished Montana traditions. I was honored to serve as a foster parent to two remarkable boys who attended Cottonwood School North and were Blue Horizon 4-H Club members. You can find me attending Sunday church services at Havre Community Alliance Church. I also work weekends at The Golden Spike, serving drinks, listening and forging connections with our community members.

I’m running for Hill County Commissioner because I believe in the power of substantive, transparent, accountable leadership. I’m not here to play politics, blow smoke, or make empty promises. I’m here to listen, learn and lead with integrity. I’m here to restore the public trust and confidence in the office of county commissioner. From improving infrastructure and supporting local businesses to ensuring access to essential services and preserving our Montana way of life, I’m committed to working tirelessly to address the issues that matter most to our community.

The status quo isn’t working, and Hill County needs a new voice. Together, let’s work towards a brighter future for Hill County, one rooted in integrity, resilience, and community.

What is a libertarian?

A libertarian is someone who believes in individual liberty. Libertarians advocate for personal freedom, civil liberties, and free markets. In essence, we prioritize individual rights and autonomy while working to minimize government interference in people’s everyday lives.

Personally, I find the partisan nature of county positions, such as commissioner or sheriff, to be unnecessary, if not harmful. I reject extreme partisanship and believe that focusing on the actual issues at hand is far more important than political labels. That’s why I registered as a Libertarian years ago and why I’m running as one now. We need fewer partisan politicians and more emphasis on addressing the needs of our community, regardless of party affiliation.

What inspired you to run for Hill County Commissioner?

The decision to run for Hill County Commissioner was an unexpected one. I’ve never been particularly drawn to politics and don’t fit the mold of the typical politician – I’m outspoken, straightforward, and often a bit abrasive with my bluntness. When the idea was proposed to me, my immediate reaction was to brush it off. However, after discussing it with several respected friends in the community, their emphatic encouragement and belief in my no-nonsense approach led me to believe they were seeing something that wasn’t initially apparent to me. I genuinely believe that I can make a difference in restoring public trust in our county government. This is a leap I’ve decided to take because I genuinely want to make a positive impact on this community that has welcomed me so warmly.

How can I get a campaign sign/poster/flyer?

Campaign materials like signs, posters, and flyers are in the works and will be available soon! As donations come in, I’ll be able to finalize the design and production process. In the meantime, you can show your support by signing up for updates, spreading the word about my campaign, or contributing financially. Thank you for your support!
